About LEAF

LEAF operates as a data-driven platform focused on research, insights, and strategic advisory across African economies, with an emphasis on actionable intelligence, collaboration, and evidence-based decision-making. Its Project Panorama initiative integrates data, research, and storytelling to inform policy, investment, and entrepreneurial decisions.

Role purpose

The Data Entry Manager will serve as the central authority for data intake, structuring, validation, and governance across research and analytical workflows. This is a strategic and operational role, rather than a clerical one, working across research production, data infrastructure, and knowledge management.

Core functions and responsibilities

A. Data acquisition and standardisation

  • Design and enforce standard templates for all incoming data (surveys, datasets, field reports, third-party sources).
  • Coordinate with research teams to ensure consistent data collection formats.
  • Establish data dictionaries and metadata standards for all projects.

B. Data quality control and validation

  • Implement multi-layer validation processes (range checks, consistency checks, duplication checks).
  • Flag inconsistencies and coordinate corrections with analysts.
  • Maintain audit trails for data changes and updates.

C. Centralised data management

  • Build and manage a centralised data repository (structured database or cloud system).
  • Ensure proper classification, tagging, and indexing of datasets.
  • Enable easy retrieval for research, reporting, and future reuse.

D. Data ownership and governance

  • Define and enforce data governance policies (access control, versioning, storage protocols).
  • Ensure LEAF retains institutional ownership of all generated and processed data.
  • Support compliance with data protection and ethical standards.

E. Workflow integration with research teams

  • Work closely with analysts and researchers to prepare datasets for modelling and analysis, and to clean and structure raw data inputs.
  • Reduce time lost to manual cleaning and restructuring.

F. Reporting and data readiness

  • Deliver analysis-ready datasets for reports, dashboards, and presentations.
  • Support the creation of data visualisations by ensuring structured inputs.
  • Maintain version-controlled datasets for reproducibility.

G. Systems and process development

  • Recommend and implement data management tools (e.g., spreadsheets, databases, cloud systems).
  • Continuously improve data workflows to increase efficiency and reduce errors.

Qualifications and experience

  • A degree in a relevant discipline, or equivalent practical skills in data handling.
  • Fresh graduates are encouraged to apply. No minimum years of work experience required.
  • Applicants must currently live in Lagos.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets, including organising records and basic data validation.
  • Attention to detail, clear documentation, good organisation, and respect for data confidentiality.
  • Relevant training, internships, or academic/personal data projects are valuable but not required.

What this role enables

  • More research time for analysis and insight, with less cleaning and reconciliation.
  • A proprietary, reusable data asset base and stronger institutional data ownership.
  • More credible, accurate, and defensible reports and publications.
  • Systems that can handle larger datasets as research output grows, without losing quality or speed.

Compensation

Monthly net salary: ₦250,000.
